Associated Press: You'll want to take this one lying down
Robert Buckman, director of airline distribution strategies for Amadeus North America and "airline futurist," shared his views with the Associated Press about the rise in airlines offering flat-bed seats for business and/or first-class travel. Buckman said competition for premium passengers is behind this evolution.

ILO Aviation Newsletter: Airline outlook for 2008?
Robert Buckman told the International Law Office – Aviation Newsletter there are three key areas to watch in 2008. Look for airline consolidation with profitability as the goal, increased competition due to the Open Skies agreement and the beginning of a new era in “customer centricity” as emerging technologies allow airlines to better tailor their services to customers.

Travel Technology Update: The "next big thing" for hotels
New technologies will "help bring the hotel industry into a new era of distribution," Jerome Destors, deputy managing director of Amadeus' Hospitality Business Group, told Travel Technology Update. Destors said Amadeus' migration of its hotel GDS operations from TPF (transaction processing facility) to an open systems Linux platform is just the beginning. Amadeus’ new platform will bring "new means to distribute, sell and merchandise hotels online."

The Beat: Striking the balance between value and cost
Gillian Gibson, vice president of the Multinational Customer Group for Amadeus, told the The Beat newsletter that Amadeus' recent content agreements with 34 European airlines will guarantee that travel agents and corporations in Europe receive efficient access to a full range of fares in the Amadeus System until the end of 2010. Moreover, the agreements ensure that travel professionals will not be subject to surcharges from the airlines or any other additional costs to their business or clients.
